On October 16 and 17, 2009, Columbus, will celebrate the life and art of Josh Meador. Meador worked for Walt Disney Productions from 1936 to 1965. He served as head of the studios’ animation effects department and has been called one of the five greatest effects animators in history.

He was born in Greenwood in 1911 and moved to Columbus when he was 7. His animation credits include Snow White, Fantasia, Pinocchio, Dumbo, Cinderella, Bambi, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, 101 Dalmatians, The Forbidden Planet, and Sleeping Beauty. He was co-winner of the 1954 Oscar for special effects for 20,000 leagues Under the Sea.
