Pre-production of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland for Disney is going ahead. The cast appears to be almost complete. Young Australian actress Mia Wasikowska has been cast as Alice.

Anne Hathaway is playing the White Queen, a benevolent monarch who is deposed and banished by her sister, The Red Queen (an amalgamation of two original Lewis Caroll characters, The Red Queen and the Queen of Hearts)  played by Elena Bonham Carter, who has an affinity for crying out, "Off with their heads!" The White Queen needs Alice to slay a creature known as the Bandersnatch.

The film, which also stars Christopher Lee, Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar and Little Britain’s Matt Lucas as both Tweedledee and Tweedledum, will use a combination of live action and performance-capture technology to tell the Lewis Carroll story.

Crispin Glover has signed on to play the Knave of Hearts who is put on trial for stealing the Queen of Hearts’ tarts and is defended by Alice. Glover is no stranger to performance-capture technology as he already worked in the film "Beowulf"

Originally to be released in 2009, the movie is now expected to be out in cinema on March 5 2010.
Richard Zanuck, Joe Roth,  Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd are producing.
